How long do you have to return to Chewy?

365 days

Chewy gives you 365 days to return most items. 365 days from purchase, with free return shipping, under Chewy's satisfaction guarantee. Unless Chewy tells you not to bother, you must actually send the item back to get a refund or replacement.

The basics

How: Go to your orders, pick the order, select Start a return on the item and follow the prompts. Everything has to be packed in a box: reuse the Chewy box or any sturdy shipping box. A pickup is sometimes offered instead of a carrier drop-off.
Refund timing: Refunds to a Chewy gift card balance or Chewy+ rewards usually land within 15 minutes. Other payment methods take up to 5 business days, and PayPal up to 30 business days.

Different deadlines

365 days: most items, including opened pet food and litter, damaged or expired items, personalised items and Vet Diet items.
Prescription items: contact Chewy first, on 1-877-977-3879.

The catch

Chewy says it may decline a return or refund in cases of abuse, at its own discretion.
Return the whole order and you get the shipping fee back. Return only part of it and you do not.
Bought with a gift card through guest checkout, with no Chewy account? You are not eligible for a refund at all.
Chewy does not own the item until it arrives back. If it is lost on the way, call them.
If your refund is approved and no return is needed, Chewy asks you to donate safe, unopened items rather than bin them, but never prescription medicine or vet diet items.
