How long do you have to return to Dell?

The basics

How

For a technical fault, try dell.com/support with your service tag first. Otherwise go to dell.com/orders, enter the order number, choose Return/Replace Items and verify your identity. Dell issues a credit return authorisation (CRA) number, then you print the label and send the item in its original packaging.

Different deadlines

• 30 days from the invoice: most eligible purchases.
• A promotion can extend the window for a particular product, with its own rules.
• Dell must receive an authorised return within 30 calendar days of authorising it.

Fees

• Up to 15% restocking fee of the price you paid, excluding shipping and tax, on permitted returns.
• No restocking fee and a free return label if the product is defective or Dell made the error.
• Shipping and handling may also be deducted from the refund.

Can't be returned

• Enterprise products, Dell and non-Dell branded: servers, data storage, data protection, converged and hyperconverged infrastructure, networking
• APEX, and Dell Wyse or Wyse-branded products
• Non-Dell branded software products
• Gift cards, except where the law requires otherwise
• Customised products
• Software, unless it is an operating system or app Dell installed on a product you are returning in time, unopened sealed media, or electronic software whose licence you never accepted
• Software bought under a volume licence

The catch

• Send anything back without a CRA number and you get no refund, and Dell will not return the item to you either.
• Commercial customers who bought by purchase order or on payment terms are not covered by this policy at all.
• A return has to happen in the country where you bought the item.
• Bundles and promotions reduce the refund. Keep the free printer or spend the gift card and Dell deducts its value.
• Removing the factory Windows 11 install from a newer machine can make it ineligible for return.
• Dell says it is not responsible for personal data you leave on a returned machine. Wipe it first.
• Dell can refuse returns where it sees repeated returns or other activity it considers impermissible.
