How long do you have to return to Target?

The basics

How

Start the return in the Target app or on Target.com, or take the item to a store. Target.com orders can go back to any Target store with the receipt, the barcode in the Target app, the delivery or shipping confirmation email, or the original payment card.

Refund timing

Refunds normally go back to the original payment method, split across methods if you used more than one. A Target GiftCard purchase comes back as a new Target eGiftCard.

Different deadlines

• 365 days: Target Owned Brand items, with a receipt. The extra 30 days for Circle Card holders does NOT apply to these.
• 90 days: most items sold by Target, including opened beauty items (120 days with a Target Circle Card).
• 30 days: electronics and entertainment, except Apple and Beats.
• 30 days: most items sold by Target Plus Partners.
• 14 days: all Apple and Beats products, including mobile phones. Also any mobile phone bought in store or by Order Pickup.
• Extra 30 days: Target Circle debit and credit card holders and Circle 360 members, on nearly all items bought with the card.
• 90 days: anything paid for with an EBT card online. SNAP requires it.
• 1 year after the event: most new, unopened items from a baby or wedding registry.
• 2 weeks (typical): Limited Time Offer designer launches.

Fees

• Mobile phones can carry a restocking charge of up to $35, except where that is banned. No charge if the phone is unopened. A phone bought with a carrier contract can also trigger the carrier's early termination fee.

Can't be returned

• Trading cards and trading card accessories (final sale since 30 January 2023)
• Opened or defective collectibles, such as special edition dolls, action figures and die-cast cars
• Personalised items and digital downloads
• Opened or unsealed breast pumps (contact the manufacturer instead)
• Gift cards of all kinds, which also cannot be cashed out, except where the law says otherwise
• Some items sold by Target Plus Partners

The catch

• Opened music, movies, video games and software can only be exchanged for the same title, and airbeds only for a similar item.
• No receipt means a limited return. The store can try a receipt lookup, otherwise you may get a merchandise return card and you must show government-issued ID.
• Target can refuse any return, and says so plainly, including where it suspects abuse.
• A store cannot take an international return, even of an online order.
• Target Optical, Warby Parker, Pharmacy, Starbucks and Target Tech items go back to those counters, not the main desk.
