How long do you have to return to Ulta Beauty?

Ulta Beauty gives you 30 days to return most items. 30 days for a refund to the original payment method. Days 31 to 60 get a merchandise credit instead. Most new or gently used products qualify, opened ones included.

The basics

How: Take in-store purchases back to a store with proof of purchase. For Ulta.com orders, bring the product, the original order confirmation email and all the original packaging to a store, or post it back at your own cost. Exchanges cannot be done by post.
Refund timing: Mailed refunds are processed within 30 business days of arriving at the distribution centre. Card refunds can take a further 7 to 10 days to appear.

Different deadlines

30 days: refund to the original form of payment.
31 to 60 days: Ulta Beauty merchandise credit (an electronic gift card for mailed returns).
60 days: gift receipt returns, exchangeable for something of equal or lower value, or a merchandise credit.
60 days: UB Marketplace seller items, in store or by post. They go back to the seller, not Ulta.
60 days: DoorDash and Instacart orders, in store, refunded as in-store merchandise credit.
Holiday window: purchases between 1 November 2026 and 31 December 2026 can go back until 31 January 2027. After 31 December the standard policy applies again.

Can't be returned

Gift cards
Wigs and hair extensions bought through an Ulta Beauty salon
Intimate wellness devices
Single-use coupons used in the original purchase
Mini Brands Capsules unless still unopened and sealed

The catch

Ulta asks for a government-issued physical ID plus a phone number or email on ANY return, and says it will limit returns where it suspects misuse, reselling or fraud.
No proof of purchase and no record in Ulta's system means no refund, no exchange and no credit. Every return is subject to Ulta's approval.
Returns must include all the original components.
A mailed return that arrives after 60 days is not refunded. Ulta posts it back to you.
Paid with PayPal or Afterpay? An in-store return goes to your card or a merchandise credit, not back to that service.
TikTok Shop purchases cannot be returned in a store at all. They must be done in the TikTok app.
Returns must ship by ground only, and aerosols and flammable products follow USDOT rules.
A returned check carries a service fee and a 10-day waiting period.
You may not return something just to buy it again with a coupon or rewards points.
